Step 1

1. With FileZilla open, click on the Site Manager.

2. Click New Site and name it what you would like.
3. Fill in the Host Name ( ftp.yoursite.com or yoursite.com)
4. Port: 21
5. Servertype: FTP
6. Logontype: Normal
7. Fill in your Username and Password
8. You can check the box to have your password saved if you like.
9. Click Save and Exit

10. One setting you should check is the transfer type. FileZilla defaults to Auto, but check to ensure there will be no issues when transferring files. Go to Transfer - Transfer Type and make sure that it is set to Auto.

11. You can now select your site in the Site Manager and click Connect. This will connect to your FTP hosting account.

Transferring Files Using FTP in FileZilla

Step 1

1. Once you are connected to your FTP account through FileZilla, you should see similar what is in the picture below.

2. Browse the left side under Local Sites to find the folder where your files are located and click on the folder. Your files will be viewable in the bottom pane.

3. On the right side under Remote Site double click the public_html folder. This is the directory that your public viewable web site files will be placed.

4. Highlight the files on the left under local site that you want to transfer using FTP. You can transfer multiple files by holding down the CTRL key and clicking on each file. Once you have all files highlighted simply drag them to the Remote Site box.

5. If you already have an existing file named the same, FileZilla will ask you if you would like to replace the file. You are then given five options, choose the one that works best for you.

6. To download files from your FTP hosting account to your local computer, you simply reverse the process. Select the files you would like to download from the remote site and drag them to the local site.

How To Create A Directory In FileZilla

1. To create a directory on either the server or local site, right click in the site box and choose New Directory. When the pop up box appears type in the name of your new directory where it says New Folder.

2. To Rename a directory on either the local or server side, right click on the directory or file and select rename. Type in the new name.

3. To delete a file or directory, right click and choose delete. You will be prompted by a box asking if you are sure and click yes.

4. To set file attributes for a file or directory, right click the correct one on the server side and choose file attributes.

5. To change the attributes (permissions) commonly known as CHMOD simply click the permissions you wish to grant. You have choices for the owner, group or public to read, write or execute. You may also type in the number by hand in the numeric value box.
