How To Use FileZilla For FTP Transfers

After FileZilla is downloaded and installed on your computer click the desktop icon to open it up. Now you are ready to start setting up your FTP transfer.

Configuring FileZilla to Connect to Your FTP Account

  1. With FileZilla open, click on the Site Manager.

  3. Click New Site and name it what you would like.
  4. Fill in the Host Name ( ftp.yoursite.com or yoursite.com)
  5. Port: 21
  6. Servertype: FTP
  7. Logontype: Normal
  8. Fill in your Username and Password

  10. Click Save and Exit

  12. One setting you should check is the transfer type. FileZilla defaults to Auto, but check to ensure there will be no issues when transferring files. Go to Transfer - Transfer Type and make sure that it is set to Auto.

Transferring Files Using FTP in FileZilla

    Step 1

  1. Once you are connected to your FTP account through FileZilla, you should see similar what is in the picture below.

  3. Browse the left side under Local Sites to find the folder where your files are located and click on the folder. Your files will be viewable in the bottom pane.

  5. On the right side under Remote Site double click the public_html folder. This is the directory that your public viewable web site files will be placed.

  7. Highlight the files on the left under local site that you want to transfer using FTP. You can transfer multiple files by holding down the CTRL key and clicking on each file. Once you have all files highlighted simply drag them to the Remote Site box.

  9. If you already have an existing file named the same, FileZilla will ask you if you would like to replace the file. You are then given five options, choose the one that works best for you.

  1. To create a directory on either the server or local site, right click in the site box and choose New Directory. When the pop up box appears type in the name of your new directory where it says New Folder.
